Two people have been taken to hospital following a serious collision in Gateshead.

Emergency services were called to the A695 in Blaydon on Thursday evening following the two vehicle crash.

The road remains closed between the B6317 Bridge Street to Beweshill Lane while investigations are carried out.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 7.03pm to reports of a four vehicle road traffic collision on the A695.

“We sent two ambulances, an officer and one of our Hazardous Area Response Teams.

“We have taken two patients, one male and one female, to the RVI.”
