Man and woman taken to hospital with 'non-life threatening injuries' after Gateshead crash

Two people were taken to hospital with "non-life threatening injuries" after a crash in Gateshead, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the A695 in Blaydon on Thursday evening following the two-vehicle collision.

The road was closed between the B6317 Bridge Street to Beweshill Lane while investigations were carried out. It has since reopened.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 7.06pm yesterday (Thursday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A695 in Blaydon.

"Emergency services attended and both drivers – a man and a woman – were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"The road was temporarily closed to allow a clear-up operation to take place but has now reopened."

The North East Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, an officer and a Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene. They took the two patients to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed they were in attendance.

Recovery vehicles were at the scene shortly before 9.10pm and the vehicles were then removed.

A reporter at the scene said the roof of one car had been removed, while another vehicle was on its side.
