A man and woman are seriously injured after a car smashed into a barrier on the M60.
The motorway remains closed following the crash between junction six, for Rifle Road in Sale, and junction eight, for Carrington, clockwise.
Emergency services were called to the incident at around 1.50am this morning (June 11).
They found a silver Volkswagen Golf has ploughed into a safety barrier and two lampposts.
The driver and passenger, a 26-year-old woman and 30-year-old man, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Debris from the crash subsequently struck other vehicles.
A HGV also shed its load of metal bars onto the carriageway, underneath the bridge near junction eight.
No arrests have been made and Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with further information to come forward.
PC Darren White, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a devastating collision which resulted in a young woman and man sustaining really serious injuries. Our thoughts are with them as they remain in hospital.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and I appeal to anyone with information which may assist us or dash cam footage from the area at around the time of the collision to contact us.”
