Man and woman seriously injured after crash in north Manchester - an Audi fled the scene

A man and woman have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash in north Manchester.

The smash, between a Ford Mondeo and Audi, happened on Blackley New Road in Blackley at around 6.40pm last night (Friday).

Firefighters, police officers and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

Their injuries are believed to be serious.

The driver of the Audi failed to stop and fled the scene of the crash.

No arrests have been made and enquiries remain ongoing.

Pictures taken at the scene on Friday evening showed a stretch of the road cordoned off between Old Market Street and Riverdale Road.

A badly-damaged white Ford Mondeo was pictured inside the cordon.

Debris from the crash could be seen strewn across the road.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Shortly before 6.40pm on Friday 12 March 2021, police were called to reports of a collision between a Ford Mondeo and an Audi on Blackley New Road in Blackley.

"The Audi failed to stop at the scene.

"Emergency services attended and a man and woman - who had been travelling in the Ford - were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have currently been made."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At around 6.40pm this evening, one fire engine from Blackley fire station was called to a report of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Blackley New Road, Manchester.

“Upon arrival, firefighters isolated one vehicle and made the scene safe before handing over to colleagues from Greater Manchester Police.

"The crew was in attendance for around 40 minutes.”
