Two people were seriously hurt after a horror crash outside a pub.
The driver of a silver BMW 320, a woman, suffered serious injuries following the incident on Rochdale Road outside the Marble Arch.
A male passenger in the car was also seriously hurt.
Three other people in the car, two women and one man, walked away from the crash unhurt.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision, which police attended shortly after 6am.
Rochdale Road was shut in both directions for about six hours while police continued to investigate.
The badly damaged BMW appeared to have had its roof cut off.
There was also visible damage to the wall of a beauty parlour, which is based below flats.
A window was also smashed.
A lamppost had also been uprooted and was on the ground, with debris from the car strewn all over the road.
It appeared that there was no damage to the exterior of the Marble Arch pub.
The busy road, a main route from the city centre to north Manchester, was shut at its junctions with Sharp Street and Clive Street.
Bus routes were also affected.
The wreckage of the BMW was cleared from the scene and debris was removed before the road was re-opened at about 12.30pm.
Specialist officers worked at the scene, carrying out break tests and calculations to gain further clues about the crash.
