A man and woman are in hospital after being mowed down by a car in Motherwell.
The pair, both aged 54, were struck by the motor on Muirhouse Road on Friday.
Police were called to the scene at around 11.10am, the Daily Record reports.
Pictures of the scene show three police cars and two ambulances in the area.
The injured pedestrians were taken to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.
The nature of their injuries and current medical condition is not yet known.
Police confirmed the incident on Friday night as their investigation got underway.
Muirhouse Road remains closed to traffic.
Enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Motherwell attended Muirhouse Road around 11.10am on Friday, July 9, following reports of two pedestrians having been struck by a car.
“Emergency services attended and a 54-year-old man and woman were taken to Wishaw General Hospital.
“The road remains closed and enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.”
