Man and woman in their 20s found dead inside van at side of road after crash

A young man and woman have been found dead by police in a van which had left the road.

Officers say the 24-year-old man was driving and a 20-year-old woman was also in the white Citroen Berlingo van when they found it crashed in rural Cumbria.

They are working to understand the full circumstance of how the van left the road and have asked for anyone who saw it before the incident to get in touch.

The crash took place on the road from Kings Meaburn towards the B6260, near Drybeck, and police were called to the scene at around 7.40am today.

The driver of the vehicle was from the Ashton-in-Makerfield and the female passenger was from Golborne.

A Cumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Collision investigation enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

"Officers appeal for anyone who witnessed a white Citroen Berlingo van in the area or have information on this incident to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
