Man and woman in hospital with serious injuries after car ploughs into barrier in M602 horror smash

A man and a woman were seriously injured after their car ploughed into a crash barrier on a M602 slip road.

Emergency services were called to Albion Way in Salford at about 10pm on Tuesday.

The man, 23, and woman, 21, were taken to hospital, where they remain with serious injuries.

Pictures taken at this scene this morning show debris left strewn on the road after the crash.

The M602 was closed eastbound between junctions two and three.

Two lanes were also blocked on Regent Road and diversions were put in place.

Police say no arrests have been made, and enquiries are ongoing.

Constable Neil Pennington from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "We are appealing to anyone with information and/or dash cam footage to speak with police as we work to piece together how this incident unfolded.

"Both individuals remain in hospital with serious injuries, and any information could prove invaluable."

In a statement, a spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "NWAS attended at the scene following an initial 999 call at 10.03pm reporting a car colliding with a wall.

"We’ve taken two people to hospital with serious injuries.

"One patient needed to be released from the vehicle by fire crews."
