Man and woman hospitalised after being struck by car in Motherwell

A man and woman were hospitalised after being run down by a car in Motherwell.

The pair, both aged 54, were struck by the vehicle on Muirhouse Road yesterday morning.

Police were called to the scene at around 11.10am.

Pictures of the incident show three police cars and two ambulances in the area.

The injured pedestrians were rushed to Wishaw General Hospital for treatment.

The nature of their injuries and current medical condition is not yet known.

Police confirmed the incident last night as their investigation got underway.

Muirhouse Road was closed to traffic.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers in Motherwell attended Muirhouse Road around 11.10am on Friday, following reports of two pedestrians having been struck by a car.

“Emergency services attended and a 54-year-old man and woman were taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

“Enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.”
