Man and woman found dead named locally as tributes are left at the scene

Loving tributes have been left outside of the home of a man and woman after they were found dead in "unexplained" circumstances.

The pair sadly died and were found on Easter Monday at an address on Mersey Street, in St Helens.

Police said the man and woman, both aged in their 50s, were found at around 5.50pm and had been found inside the house following concerns for their safety.

Police are treating the deaths as "unexplained" and an investigation is underway.

Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Since their death, kind tributes were laid outside of the home as the pair were named locally as Shirley and Col.

A bunch of flowers was left outside which read "Shirley and Col, sadly missed".

Another message at the scene read: "Col & Shirley sadly missed"

Well-wishers online also offered their condolences to the family.

ECHO reader Elizabeth Rowson wrote: "So sad RIP x"

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services were in St Helens following the unexplained deaths of two people found yesterday, Monday 5 April.

"At around 5.50pm, police and ambulance were called to a home on Mersey Street to a call reporting that a man and woman in their 50s had been found inside, following concerns for their safety.

"They were sadly confirmed deceased a short time later and next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by officers.

"Both deaths are being treated as unexplained as enquiries continue at the location."
