A man and a woman were forced to flee for their lives after a fire ripped through their home.
The first floor of the pair's Wigan home was destroyed during the blaze which broke out shortly before 6am on Tuesday.
The blaze broke out in an upstairs front bedroom at the property in Saddleback Road before tearing through the rest of the property.
A man and a woman in their 40s were inside the house at the time, but managed to escape before firefighters arrived minutes later.
The pair were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Crews managed to douse the flames, but the upstairs of the home was left with irreparable damage.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called to Saddleback Road in Wigan at 5.58am this morning.
"Three fire engines from Wigan and Skelmersdale attended after a person reported a house fire.
"It was a fire involving the bedroom of a detached house. Crew used two hose reels and fire breathing apparatus."
Station Manager Chris Evans from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), was in charge of the incident.
Chris said: “The fire developed really quickly and caused extensive damage to the upstairs of the house. Crews worked really hard to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining property.
“A man and a woman had left the house when we arrived, and both suffered from smoke inhalation. We believe that they are both in their 40s and they were taken to hospital by ambulance.”
