Man and woman die in tragic Co Antrim collision

A man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s died following a collision in Co Antrim yesterday, police have confirmed.

They were killed when the car they were in collided with a telehandler just after 4pm on Monday, November 16.

The man had been the driver of the car and the woman a rear seat passenger.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, a man and a woman, were also injured in the collision and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A man in his 70s and a woman in her 40s have died in a collision on the Benvardin Road in Ballymoney.

"The collision, involving a car and a telehandler, occurred just after 4pm on Monday afternoon, 16 November.



"The man was the driver of the car while the woman was a rear passenger. Two other people, a man and a woman, who were also travelling in the vehicle were treated in hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

"Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have captured dash-cam footage to please get in touch by calling 101, quoting reference 1317 16/11/20."

Causeway Coast UUP councillor Darry Wilson told Belfast Live: "It's an awful tragedy."

He said earlier: "Unfortunately the road traffic collision on the Benvardin Road has resulted in two people losing their lives.

"Can I pass on my deepest sympathies to all impacted by this tragedy."
