Man and woman die after falling from Taft Point in Yosemite National Park

LOS ANGELES _ A man and woman died after falling from Taft Point in Yosemite National Park, the National Park Service said Thursday.

Park rangers were in the process of recovering the bodies Thursday morning, Yosemite officials said in a statement.

Park spokesperson Jaime Richards said she does not have information about what the two people were doing or whether others were present when they fell.

Yosemite National Park is typically busy this time of year. Taft Point is a popular hiking destination off the Pohono Trail, with views of Yosemite Falls. At its peak, Taft Point's elevation is more than 7,000 feet.

It's unclear where the two people were when they fell, officials said. The pair have not been identified, and park rangers are leading an investigation into the fatal mishap, Richards said.
