A mother and her boyfriend have appeared in court to face charges over the death of her baby son two years ago.

Jacob Lennon was 15 months old when he died from a head injury at a house in Putney, south London.

On Thursday, Jake Drummond, 31, was charged with Jacob’s murder and wounding with intent.

Louise Jane Lennon, 31, of Wandsworth, south west London, was charged on the same day with neglecting the toddler and causing or allowing his death.

Both defendants appeared at Wimbledon magistrates court on Friday morning for a brief hearing, when their case was sent up to the Old Bailey.

Drummond, also from Wandsworth, was remanded in custody while Lennon was released on bail.

Police had been called to a residential address in Putney shortly after 6am on August 27, 2019.

Paramedics told police they were responding to reports of a child in cardiac arrest and the toddler was rushed to a hospital in west London.

He was pronounced dead less than two hours later and identified as Jacob Lennon.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital which revealed the cause of his death.

Lennon and Drummond are due to appear at the Old Bailey on December 7, when Drummond is expected to face a full bail hearing.
