Man and woman arrested over Kinder Egg drug smuggle prison plot

Criminals were nabbed with Kinder Surprise eggs stuffed full of drugs they planned to throw into a jail.

They had replaced the toy inside the sweet treats with cocaine and cannabis at HMP Kirkham, Lancs.

Police swooped after staff noticed lights in the jail’s farms and gardens area at 1am on the 4th July.

Guards tried to confront the suspects but they managed to escape in a nearby car.

Cops stopped a vehicle closeby on the A583.
A man and woman were arrested at the roadside.

A source said: "Kinder eggs are great for smuggling things as they can be opened and refilled.

“They can also be thrown and as an every day object, they don’t arouse suspicion.”

Lancashire police confirmed a man and woman were arrested.

They added:” A man, 32, from Carlisle was given a caution in relation to possession of a class A drug and possession of a class B or C drug.

“A woman, 32, also from Carlisle was given a caution in relation to possession of a class B or C drug.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson was shocked earlier this year when he saw scans of a inmate at Leeds jail who had shoved a Kinder egg up his bottom.

Zachary Bowler, 27, was jailed last year for beating his girlfriend with a cricket bat.

The plastic container was found when he was scanned on arrival at prison to start his two-and-a-half year sentence.

Mr Johnson grimaced when he looked at the image and said: “You’re joking? He plugged it?”

The Prison Service refused to comment as they said it was a police matter.
