Man and woman arrested on suspicion of murder after death of one-month-old baby in Newbury

A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a one-month-old baby in Newbury.

Thames Valley Police was called to Fountain Gardens, Ashridge Court, by South Central Ambulance Service at 1.50am on Saturday to reports the baby boy was in cardiac arrest.

The child, who was born on April 10 and has been named as Colby Stroud, later died in hospital.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was unknown.

A 26-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, both from Newbury, were held on Thursday and remain in custody facing questioning.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Blaik, of the Thames Valley Police major crime unit, urged witnesses to come forward.

He said: “This is a tragic and distressing incident and I understand that this news will cause a great deal of concern and upset in the community.

“I would like to reassure people that we are carrying out a full and thorough investigation.”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference number 43200136471, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
