Man and woman arrested following death of baby in Huddersfield

A man and a woman have been arrested following the death of a four-month-old baby at a home in Huddersfield.

Police and paramedics were called to an address in the Dalton area shortly before 7am on Sunday.

The baby, who was not breathing when they arrived, was later pronounced dead at hospital, ExaminerLive reports.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 44-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested in connection with the death but have since been released on bail while investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Emergency services were called at 6.44am on Sunday to an address in the Dalton area of Huddersfield to a report of a 4-month-old baby not breathing.

"Paramedics and police attended the address and the baby was taken to hospital where sadly it was confirmed the baby had died.

"Police arrested a 31-year-old female and a 44-year-old male in connection with the child’s death. Both have now been bailed pending continuing enquiries.

"A post-mortem examination will take place this week to determine the cause of death. Detectives are continuing enquiries to determine the exact circumstances of the death."
