Man and woman arrested at hotel after series of armed robberies

Two arrests have been made following a series of armed robberies and burglaries across Runcorn and Frodsham.

A 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, from Runcorn, were both arrested in connection with the knifepoint robberies.

Police tracked them down at 11.30pm on Wednesday, July 14, to a hotel in Warrington.

The first robbery happened on Saturday 10 July, at around 11.54pm, when a man entered Runcorn Expressway Service Station on Thomas Jones Way.

He was was armed with a knife and threatened staff to open the till. He then stole a quantity of cash before fleeing the scene.

The second incident took place at around 6.40pm on Sunday, July 11, when a man entered the Spar store on Palacefields.

Once inside he threatened staff with a knife before running off with a quantity of cash.

On both occasions the suspect was described as a white man about 6’ tall and of slim build.

In the first incident the suspect was described as wearing dark clothing and a blue surgical face mask.

Two more robberies, including the One Stop shop, in Helsby on July 12, and at Townfield Lane, Frodsham on July 14, are thought to be connected.

Two burglaries took place on Stenhill Crescent and Brereten Close, Runcorn.

The man, who is from the Frodsham area, has been arrested on suspicion of four counts of robbery and two counts of burglary.

The woman, who is from Runcorn, has been arrested on suspicion of one count of robbery.

The two remain in police custody where they are being questioned by officers.

Chief Inspector Mike Ankers: "I understand that these incidents are likely have caused concern in the community and I hope that these arrests provide reassurance for local residents."
