Man and woman arrested as Revenue seize kilo of cannabis worth €20k in Sandyford

A man and a woman have been arrested after a kilo of cannabis was seized in south Dublin.

The drug, with an estimated value of €20,000, was found today during a search on a premises in Sandyford.

A man, 37, and a woman, 29, were both arrested at the scene.

The search was made as part of an ongoing investigation that is targeting organised crime groups.

A Revenue spokesman said: "Today (04/06/2020), as part of an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized approximately 1kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €20,000, following a search, under warrant, of a premises in the Sandyford area of Dublin.

"The joint operation was conducted by Revenue’s Custom Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) East Divisional Drugs Unit.

"Gardai arrested a 37 year old Irish man and a 29 year old Irish woman at the scene. Both are being detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996 at Dundrum Garda Station.

"Investigations are ongoing.

"This operation was part of ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295. "
