A man and a woman have been arrested after Gardai spotted a firearm being thrown in a bin following a large altercation in Dublin city.
Gardai on patrol came across the scene involving a number of people just after midnight on Saturday on Abbey Street.
When officers approached the individuals to intervene, they observed one man discarding an object into a nearby bin on Liffey Street, Dublin Live reports.
This bin was inspected by Gardaí and a suspected firearm with ammunition was located inside.
A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Store Street Garda Station.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing and confirmed that the firearm and ammunition has been taken to the Ballistics Section for analysis.
