Man and woman arrested after fatal stabbing in Dublin

Gardai have arrested a man and a woman following the fatal stabbing of Isaac Horgan who bled to death in his own flat yesterday.

The 52-year-old received just a single stab wound to the leg but suffered massive blood loss when he was fatally injured early on Monday.

It’s understood the weapon hit an artery – and meant medics could do nothing for him when they found him in his flat in south inner city Dublin at 11am - Dublin Live reports.

The arrested man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s are currently being questioned by officers at Pearse Street Garda Station with a spokesman adding that "investigations are ongoing."

Gardai suspect Mr Horgan – who beat a manslaughter rap in 2005 after he was accused of stabbing a neighbour to death – knew his killer and may have let him into his property.

Sources said there was no sign of a forced entry at his ground floor flat at Markievicz House close to Trinity College.

A source added: “It may not be a murder, it may have been an accident, but he was stabbed and died from that wound.”

It’s also understood detectives from Pearse Street Garda station are also probing if Mr Horgan, who was originally from the Fatima Mansions area of South Dublin but had lived in Markievicz House for at least three years, was targeted for his social welfare payment.

A local woman said she saw Mr Horgan, who had addiction issues, collecting his payment from a local post office at 9.30am – 90 minutes before the alarm was raised.

She added: “He was by himself and looked his normal self.

“He didn’t look upset or frightened or anything.”
