Man and woman arrested after car flipped on to roof following smash in Oldham

A man and a woman have been arrested after a car flipped onto its roof following a two vehicle smash in Oldham.

The pair are being held on suspicion of stealing a stolen car following the collision on Rochdale Road, in Shaw, at around 9.35am this morning.

They remain in custody for questioning.

A woman, aged in her 30s, who was inside the car, has been taken to hospital with a neck injury.

Another man, who was also inside the car on its roof, suffered a head injury.

Their injuries are thought to be minor.

A section of Rochdale Road was sealed off this morning while emergency services attended the scene.

Images showed an orange car flipped over in the middle of the road.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Police were called at around 9.35am on Friday, March 20, 2020 to reports of a road traffic collision between two cars on Rochdale Road in the Shaw area of Oldham.

“Both cars remained at the scene – one of them on its roof with the occupants sustaining minor injuries.

“A man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and have been taken to custody for questioning.”

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.36am.

“One female, in her 30s, was taken to hospital. She has got a neck injury, not thought to be serious.

“We have also taken one male, he has got a head injury.”
