Man and pregnant woman fatally shot on Far South Side, but doctors save baby

CHICAGO _ A man and a pregnant woman were shot to death Friday on the Far South Side, but doctors were able to save the baby, Chicago police said.

The baby was listed in critical condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 a.m. in the Fernwood neighborhood, police said. The man was dead at the scene. The woman was shot three times in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Officers taped off two cars at the scene, one black, the other red. Guglielmi said the shooting may have been domestic-related.

The attack was one of two double-shootings in the city over two hours. A man was killed and another man was seriously wounded in a West Side shooting around 9:45 a.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

The men, 25 and 28, got into an argument with three other men, police said. The 25-year-old was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The other man was also hit in the chest and was taken in critical to Stroger, police said.

A suspect was taken into custody.

In a South Side shooting, a 20-year-old man was seriously wounded in the Englewood neighborhood around 11:45 a.m., police said.

Another Englewood attack happened about 2:50 p.m., police said. There, a 21-year-old man was shot in the right thigh. He was listed in good condition at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.
