Man and dog escape car fire as strong gusts spread blaze extremely quickly

A man and his dog managed to escape a car fire as Storm Ciara's strong gusts spread flames at great speed.

Photographs from the incident on Hutton Moor show the vehicle completely ravaged by the blaze.

One crew from Weston-super-Mare attended the fire at around 2.14pm on Tuesday (February 11).

A spokeswoman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 2:14pm. Crews used two high pressured hose reels and one breathing apparatus.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be accidential."

A spokesperson for Weston Fire Station said: "Results of a vehicle fire vs wind - accelerating the speed a burn takes hold of a car, luckily driver and little dog out safely in time."

Storm Ciara hit the area over the weekend bringing speeds of up to 60mph. Tuesday saw the tail end of the adverse weather, however there were still gales of around 40mph.
