A man and a three-year-old child have been killed in a Christmas Day car crash in Bedfordshire. A woman who was also in the car has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The child was airlifted to hospital but died a short time later.

The crash happened on the A421 between Marsh Leys and Marston. It did not involve any other vehicles, Bedfordshire police said.

Sgt Simon Goldsmith said: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to call police. Any death on the road is tragic but this incident is even more poignant given the day it occurred. Next of kin have been informed and our specialist family liaison officers are providing support to relatives.”

All three occupants of the car are from Bedfordshire.

The A421 is likely to remain closed until Saturday afternoon, police said. Anyone with any information should call Goldsmith at the Bedfordshire roads policing unit on 101.
