Man and boy rushed to hospital after horror van crash in Blanchardstown

A man and a boy have been rushed to hospital after a horror van crash in Blanchardstown.

The smash happened at around 6pm this evening outside the Canterbury Gate apartment complex on the Navan Road in Mulhuddart.

Emergency services rushed to the scene immediately after and the driver, a man in his 20s, was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

A male youth was also taken to hospital, but his injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

Gardai have sealed off the scene of the collision and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward, in particular those who may have footage of the collision.

The full Garda statement reads: "Gardai in Blanchardstown are appealing for witnesses in relation to a serious injury road traffic collision that occurred on the Navan Road at Canterbury Gate in Co. Dublin this evening, 16th August 2021 at approximately 6pm.

"The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries. A male youth, who was a passenger in the vehicle has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"The road remains closed. A technical examination is due to take place.

"Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward. Any road users who were travelling on the (M3) Navan Road, towards Mulhuddart and near Canterbury Gate this evening, Monday 16th August 2021, between 5.45pm – 6.15pm and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardai.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on (01) 6667000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
