An elderly man was robbed of $800 in cash and another man who came to his aid was threatened with a knife in an incident in Adelaide's north-west last week, police have said.
A 25-year-old Pennington man has been charged with aggravated theft and aggravated assault over the incident, and is scheduled to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
Police said that the 85-year-old victim withdrew the money from an ATM on Thursday morning and was sitting at a bus stop on Torrens Road at Kilkenny when the cash was taken from his pocket.
A member of the public then chased the accused man through a nearby shopping centre but stopped when the man allegedly threatened him with a knife.
Police found the accused man in Adelaide's CBD on Friday night and arrested him.
He was refused bail until his appearance in court today.
Neither of the victims were injured but Senior Constable Mick Abbott said the elderly man was taken to hospital as a precaution.
"A good result there in regards to catching the offender," he said.
"The poor old fellow that was robbed, he was actually taken to hospital because it did shake him up a fair bit — at 85 years old, you can imagine."
