Man accused of $11,000 fraud, allegedly claimed to be psychiatrist

Police arrest Matt John Murdoch on Friday morning.

A man has been charged after allegedly pretending to be a specialist doctor and allegedly fraudulently obtaining more than $11,000 in the Hunter.

Matt John Murdoch pleaded not guilty in Newcastle Local Court on Friday to charges of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, not specialist health practitioner take/use title as such and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

According to court documents, the 53-year-old allegedly fraudulently obtained $11,737 over a six month period this year.

IN THE NEWS:

Court documents say Mr Murdoch also allegedly claimed to be a clinical psychologist and clinical psychiatrist at Lambton during the same period, between January and June.

He was arrested on Friday morning after police searched an Ellalong home and seized several items including laptops and mobile phones.

Mr Murdoch was granted conditional bail and will face court again on July 23.
