A Sydney man has been charged after allegedly crashing a car into traffic lights at East Maitland and refusing two breath tests.
Police were called to the intersection of the New England Highway and Melbourne Street just before 10.30pm Friday after a silver Ford Territory collided with a set of traffic lights.
The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 34-year-old man, was found uninjured, police said.
It is alleged that officers tried to submit the man to a roadside breath test but he refused.
He was arrested and police claim they had to forcibly remove his property after he tried to prevent police searching him.
The man was taken to Maitland Police Station where it is alleged he again refused a blood alcohol analysis.
He was charged with refuse or fail to submit breath analysis and received conditional bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on July 1.
