Man allegedly drives into petrol station after argument with woman

The ramming partially destroyed the service station's front window.

A woman fled inside a petrol station to escape an argument with a man before he allegedly used the car they were in to ram the front windows of the store in Melbourne's south-east, police say.

Police said a man and a woman in their thirties from Coburg were arguing inside a car at the Mount Waverley petrol station about 1:20am when the woman left the car and "sought refuge" inside the service station.

It's alleged the 37-year-old man then used the car to ram the front windows of the Blackburn Road service station, causing significant damage to the store.

The 32-year-old woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries and the shop attendant suffered minor injuries that did not require hospital treatment.

Police arrested the man at the scene and have charged him with assault-related offences, intentionally and recklessly causing injury and refusing to take a breath test.

He was remanded to appear in the Ringwood Magistrates Court.
