
Police have charged a man for allegedly carrying a replica gun through a street in suburban Lake Macquarie.
Inspector Cheryl Day said police received calls from the public about midday on Thursday from people concerned about a man allegedly seen walking along Bourke Street, Windale, with a firearm.
Lake Macquarie police began their investigation at the Windale street and later found the man and a replica gun at a home on Takooma Way - less than 1km from the scene.

Inspector Day said police arrested the 22-year-old and took him to Belmont Police Station, where he was charged with possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
He was refused bail.
Inspector Day said the response from the public led to an arrest "in a quick and swift manner".
