Earlier we told how traffic had been brought to a standstill after police raced to the busy motorway at around 1.30pm.

The smash happened southbound near junction 11 and the key route was closed in both directions for a number of hours following the incident.

Emergency services attended, and a 35-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow by air ambulance.

He appeared to have serious injuries.

The crash sparked traffic chaos as the road was closed for around four hours to allow the vehicles to be removed.

Police say their enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
