Man airlifted to hospital in critical condition after two-vehicle crash in Northumberland

A man has been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a two-vehicle crash in Northumberland.

Emergency services were called to a road traffic collision on the A1068 near Lesbury at around 9.55am on Monday morning.

One male patient was transported to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary by air ambulance in a critical condition while a female patient was taken to hospital by road ambulance.

Paramedics also treated two further patients at the scene who were subsequently discharged.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 9.55am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision on the A1068 near Lesbury.

"We sent an ambulance crew, an officer, a specialist paramedic and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One male patient is being transported to the RVI by air in a critical condition and a female patient is being transported by road to hospital as well.

"Two further patients were treated and discharged at the scene."

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said they sent appliances from Alnwick, Amble and Seahouses to the scene.

It's reported that the road remains closed from the Oaks Roundabout Alnwick to the roundabout at Lesbury while investigations continue.

A spokesperson for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said: "We have appliances from Alnwick, Amble and Seahouses in attendance at a two-vehicle RTC on the A1068 Hawkhill.

"We are supporting our colleagues from NEAS in casualty care. The road is closed from the Oaks Roundabout Alnwick to the roundabout at Lesbury, diversions are in place."
