Man airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after horror crash in Tipperary

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a two-vehicle collision in Co Tipperary.

The crash between a lorry and a motorcycle happened in the Horse and Jockey area at around 5.50pm on Tuesday.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to the village, which is located between the towns of Cashel and Thurles.

The motorcyclist, who is in his 50s, was airlifted to Cork University Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Gardai said on Wednesday that his condition is currently described as critical.

The road was closed for a short time and has since reopened.

The collision happened just outside the village of the Horse and Jockey (Google Maps)

Superintendent Pat Murphy, of Thurles Garda Station, appealed to witnesses to contact gardai.

The crash comes as three people lost their lives on Irish roads.

Two people died in Cork after a bus ploughed into cars on the Strand Road in Monkstown on Tuesday afternoon.

The 52-year-old Bus Eireann driver who died in the incident is believed to have suffered a suspected heart attack while behind the wheel.

He has been named as Mark Wills, of Ballincollig and a father of teenage children.

Fr Con Cronin was also killed in the crash after he was struck by the bus.

The much-loved priest is being hailed as a hero after he pushed his friend out of danger and saved her life.

The 72-year-old Passage West priest was an icon in the area and had previously gone viral after footage of him floss dancing at a communion emerged.

A vigil was held for him in his local town on Tuesday night, with his devastated parishioners remembering him as "a true gentleman" who will be "missed greatly" by the community.

Tributes are also being paid to a young man who died in a collision in Co Monaghan.

Fionán Callan, who was in his 20s, died in hospital hours after the early-morning crash on Tuesday.

The two-car collision happened on the R181 in the townland of Muldrumman, outside Castleblayney, at around 6.40am.

Emergency services attended the scene and the young man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, where he later died.

Fionán, from Castleblayney, is remembered as a great work colleague who will be sadly missed by his devastated friends and family.
