Man airlifted to hospital after falling from a cliff in County Durham

A man has been airlifted to hospital after he fell from a cliff in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to Nose's Point in Seaham after the man, in his 20s, was injured in the fall at just after 9.45am on Monday.

The patient was treated at the scene before being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by air ambulance.

A spokesperson from North East Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.46am to Nose’s Point in Seaham to an incident involving a patient who had fallen from a height.

“We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance, an officer, a clinical care manager and four Hazardous Area Response Teams.

"Crews were helped by the Great North Air Ambulance Service, the police and the Coastguard.

"A male patient in his 20s was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”

A spokesperson for Great North Air Ambulance confirmed that the critical care team were called to the area at 10.53am and airlifted the patient to hospital.

Hartlepool Coastguard Rescue Team also attended, along with a crew from the Sunderland Lifeboat Station.

A spokesman from Hartlepool Coastguard Rescue Team said: “We were paged by Humber Coastguard along with RNLI - Sunderland Lifeboat Station, the North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service, to extract a casualty from the beach at Nose’s Point in Seaham.

“The casualty was flown to hospital for treatment.”
