A man has been air-lifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition after he was injured and trapped in a vehicle during a two-car collision at Lake Macquarie on Thursday morning.
Emergency services called the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew to the scene at Awaba Road, east of Toronto, just before 8.30am.
A 26-year-old man was trapped in the wreckage until emergency crews freed him.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter service said the man was treated for "multiple traumatic injuries".
He was stabilised and the chopper's critical care team flew him to John Hunter Hospital, where he remained in a serious but stable condition late on Thursday morning.
In an unrelated incident earlier on Thursday morning, Fire and Rescue NSW attended a HAZMAT incident inside a caravan at Raymond Terrace.
Firefighters were called the Hunter Street scene about 3am, where they found a 29-year-old man who had been using a coal heater inside and who was feared to have suffered carbon monoxide poisoning.
They managed to wake the man and he was not seriously injured.
Fire and Rescue NSW is reminding the community to avoid the use of external heating equipment inside their homes.
This type of equipment is not suitable for indoor use and can lead to a build up of carbon monoxide which could be fatal.
All heating devices should be used in accordance with manufacturer's recommended practices.
