Man aged 86 dies after being hit by car while crossing road in East Lothian

An 86-year-old man has died after being hit by a car as he crossed the road in East Lothian.

William Knox was struck by a black Honda Civic in the village of Pencaitland around 7.10am on Thursday, January 9.

The incident took place on the A6093 Dovecot Park road, which was closed for several hours afterwards.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and died from his injuries afterwards.

Police Scotland say a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal. They have asked anyone with relevant information to come forward.

Sergeant John Easton, of the Livingston road policing unit, said: "Although this happened early in the morning, we know from CCTV that there was a white van in the area just around the time of the crash.

"It was not involved in the incident but the driver may have seen something or have dash-cam footage that may help our investigation."

Any information can be passed to police via 101, quoting reference number 0418 of the 9 January 2020 when calling.
