Man admits to 'firing at PSOs with water gun' because he was angry, court told

A Melbourne man says he fired pellets at Protective Services Officers patrolling a railway station in Melbourne's south-east because he was angry at the world, according to court documents.

Nathan Lloyd-Gosbell, 22, faced the Moorabbin Magistrates' Court after allegedly admitting to using a gel bullet water gun to fire at the two PSOs from the balcony of his apartment in Highett, which overlooks the suburb's train station.

He had initially yelled abuse at the officers before going inside and arming himself with the mechanical toy gun, firing a "significant quantity of pellets" at about 1:00am, according to a police summary released by the court.

It said a pellet hit one of the officers in the temple and led the pair to call for urgent back up as they were not sure what weapon was being used to fire at them.

Members of the Critical Incident Response Team were called in and arrested Lloyd-Gosbell in the foyer of his apartment building.

Police allege he later told them he had fired at the PSOs "because he was angry at the world".

Lloyd-Gosbell's toy gun was seized along with three others allegedly found in his apartment.

He has been charged with numerous firearms offences, reckless conduct and unlawful assault of an emergency worker on duty.

A PSO had fined Lloyd-Gosbell for drinking beer at nearby Bentleigh train station at 8:45pm on Tuesday, about four hours before the shooting.

The officer hit in the incident was treated for minor injuries.

Outside court, one of Lloyd-Gosbell's family members, who did not want to be identified, said they were shocked by the alleged incident.

"He's a good kid … and this just doesn't sound like him at all," she said.

"He's very upset and distraught."

Lloyd-Gosbell was remanded in custody and will reappear in court next week.
