Man admits stealing a trampoline from Asda store

A Motherwell man broke into his local supermarket three times in a matter of months.

John Dyet used the same method to gain entry each time - forcing a door open - but didn't manage to steal anything.

Dyet, 36, of Merry Street, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted breaking into Asda in Watson Street with intent to steal on August 8, November 29 and November 30 last year.

Dyet also admitted stealing a trampoline from the store on August 8 and a washing machine from a flat in McClurg Court, Motherwell, on December 6.

After studying background reports, Sheriff Moira MacKenzie put him on a drug treatment and testing order that will run for a year.

She praised the accused for co-operating with a preliminary assessment for the programme, but warned:

"If you fail to comply with the order an alternative sentence is likely to be imposed."
