Man admits possessing scissors and using threatening behaviour in Nottingham city centre

A man pleaded guilty to possessing scissors and using threatening, abusive and insulting words and behaviour.

Officers were called to Milton Street, Nottingham city centre, yesterday (5 September 2021), at around 8.30am following a number of calls from the public.

Peter Wilson, 46, of Pelham Road, Forest Fields, Nottingham, was charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place - the scissors - and appeared before Nottingham Magistrates' Court today (Monday, September 6) and pleaded guilty.

He was given 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

This was concurrent to four weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, for using threatening abusive insulting words and behaviour with the intent to cause fear. He was fined £128 and ordered to pay costs of £85.

Apprentice Constable Terry Smith, from Nottinghamshire Police, had said after charges were brought: “Nottinghamshire Police will not tolerate weapons in public.

“Reports of this nature are taken very seriously and officers will always take proactive measures and act swiftly to ensure everyone’s safety.”
