A man has admitted choked a British mum to death during a robbery at her home in Mauritius, a court has heard.

Janice Farman, 47, was found dead in her bedroom while her 10-year-old son was in the house at the time of the attack.

A post-mortem found Janice, from Clydebank, near Glasgow, died of asphyxiation caused by compression of the neck.

Former colleague Kamlesh Mansingh, 27, told the court he went to Janice's home with two other men to rob her, reported Daily Record .

Mansingh pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter during a hearing at the Supreme Court of Mauritius in Port Louis earlier this week.

His accomplices Ravish Rao Fakhoo, 27, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting Janice without intention to kill; and Anish Soneea, 20, admitted aiding and abetting Mansingh in killing Janice.

The court has heard that the Scottish mum settled in Mauritius in 2002 and moved to Albion on the island's west coast a few months before she was killed.

Janice's parents - Doreen and Alexander Kerrigan - wrote in a letter stating that their daughter's wish to be cremated.

They said: "We hope and pray that her wish to be cremated is carried out with the dignity and respect she deserves and that the urn containing her ashes is given to her beloved son, our grandson, which we know is what she would have wanted."
