Man admits dealing cocaine during coronavirus lockdown

A drug dealer has been remanded in custody and faces being sent to prison after his local community told the police about his activities.

Police chiefs said people living in South Bristol played a 'key part' in putting Gary Harding behind bars.

Harding was arrested on Friday, April 24, at his home when police raided it and found drugs and other items consistent with drug supply.

Officers carried out a search warrant at his home in Gatcombe Road, Hartcliffe, and said they found Class A and Class B drugs.

Police said that even with the coronavirus lockdown, they were still targeting those involved in things like drug dealing - as this raid on Friday showed.

“We as a force remain steadfastly committed to tackling problems around drugs," said the area commander for South Bristol, Chief Inspector Olly Cosgrove.

"Harding’s arrest came as a result of a lot of hard work by various teams within the force.

"We’re determined to not let the current health emergency stop us targeting criminal activity.

“This warrant was only possible though thanks to information provided by the local community and subsequent intelligence work. The public played a key part and we are grateful for their assistance," he added.

"Anyone with concerns about drugs in their community should report it online, or call 101. If a crime is taking place, dial 999," he said.

The 49-year-old was arrested on Friday and held over the weekend in custody - and then appeared by video link to the magistrates court in Bristol on Monday.

Harding pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply, and to a separate charge of possession of cannabis.

His case was adjourned for sentencing, he was remanded in custody until then, and he will be sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Wednesday, May 20.
