Man admits causing student's death in Nottingham crash

A driver has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after a student died in a fatal crash in Nottingham.

William Christmas, a first year student at the University of Nottingham, died at the scene of a collision which happened on Derby Road during the early hours of March 19, 2020.

The 19-year-old, who was from Dorset, was studying politics and international relations.

Manish Shah, 38, of Barsby Drive, Loughborough, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and dangerous driving.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, April 16, he pleaded guilty to both allegations.

An interim driving disqualification was imposed. He will be sentenced on May 13.

Detective Constable Sarah Stables, of Nottinghamshire Police, said at the time: "This tragic incident cost a young student his life and the impact will be felt by his family he has left behind for the rest of their lives."
