A man who made a “catastrophic” decision to become involved with cocaine has avoided prison.
Lee McCabe, 23, admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug at the family home in Scarhill Street, Cleland, on May 10 last year.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard police seized £3,340 in cash during a search.
Householder Francis McCabe, 49, admitted possession of cannabis and was fined £400.
Lee McCabe’s solicitor said the serious nature of the charge was “not lost on him”.
She stated: “This young man has made a catastrophic error and committed a very serious criminal offence. However, he has previously been of good character and I would ask the court to be as lenient as possible.”
McCabe is in employment, has a girlfriend and now lives in Liverpool.
Sheriff Linda Nicholson told him: “You’re certainly in a serious position, albeit you are a first offender.
“This charge would attract a custodial sentence and I have considered that, but it seems to in all the circumstances that a community-based disposal is appropriate.”
McCabe was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community work within nine months as an alternative to custody.
