Man accused of two armed robberies in Swansea appears in court

A man charged in connection with two alleged armed robberies within minutes of one another has appeared in court.

James Paul Jones was arrested following the two incidents on Saturday, August 24.

The first occurred in St Mary’s Square in Swansea city centre while he is also accused of a subsequent attempted robbery at the Londis store in Norfolk Street in Mount Pleasant.

The 38-year-old, formerly of Rhondda Street in Mount Pleasant but now of no fixed address, is also charged with two burglaries three days later at The Mill pub in Brynymor Road in Brynmill and at the flat above the business.

Jones has also been charged with attempting to cause GBH after allegedly driving a vehicle at a security worker in St Mary’s Square on August 24.

He faces charges of robbery, attempted GBH, attempted robbery, threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place, and two counts of burglary.

Chris White, representing Jones, entered no pleas on behalf of his client.

Jones was remanded in custody to appear at Swansea Crown Court on September 30.
