A man accused of trying to kill a Scots actor is unfit to stand trial, it has emerged.

Jonathon Wilson, 43, is charged with attacking Tam Dean Burn in March this year.

Burn – who appeared in Outlander and River City - is said to have been assaulted just outside the Scottish Poetry Library on Crichton Close in Edinburgh 's Holyrood area.

The attempted murder charge claims the 60-year-old was repeatedly struck on the neck with a knife.

Wilson was not present for a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

It was agreed between prosecutors and Wilson's legal team that he is not fit to stand trial.

An examination of facts hearing – which will look at the circumstances of the case – will instead take place in Edinburgh in December.

The incident happened at around 4pm following a tribute event to Scots poet  Tom Leonard , who died last year.

Burn, who also appeared in the TV show Fortitude, was treated in hospital and released later following the incident.
