A former U.S. Department of Justice employee is facing felony charges for approaching a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer who was in the middle of his patrol. The man yelled epithets at the officer and then hurled a sandwich toward him. He has now been charged with assault.
The video has since gone viral on X. Sean Charles Dunn looks visibly irate as he approaches the officer in the middle of a Washington D.C. street. Dunn proceeds to yell, “F— you! You f—–g fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city.” He then hurls the sandwich at the officer and takes off running before he’s tackled to the ground.

The response by the Trump administration was swift, with the usually hesitant AG Pam Bondi — when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein — being very strict in her official response to the provocation. Bondi said that after finding out Dunn worked for the Justice Department, she not only fired him immediately but would also follow up with charges against him.
But the particular response that left everyone inflamed and upset came from U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeannie Pirro, who built on what Bondi said. According to NBC, Pirro took to X to express her anger, saying that Dunn thought he was funny but would now have to contend with felony assault charges. The U.S. Attorney then told Dunn to stick his Subway sandwich “somewhere else.” The video posted by Pirro has now also gone viral and everyone is chiming in with their opinions.
The immediate reaction on social media was brutal. One commenter reminded her that Donald Trump had just pardoned everyone who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection. Another user added that Trump had pardoned some of the worst criminals since starting his second term. Another felt the case was doomed to fail because the officer had been “assaulted” by a sandwich.
Ummm… but your boss pardoned all the people who assaulted police officers on January 6th, Judge Juice Box.

What happened to your morals? Trump pardon’s the worst criminals ever and you want us to believe he gives a shit about police officers!

This is going to get laughed out of court when it goes to trial. Assault with… a sandwich?

Apparently, Dunn shouted at an officer during his arrest, admitting that he did throw the sandwich. Reportedly, he is facing a maximum of one year in prison if found guilty of the crime. Ever since Trump took over Washington D.C., controversial new rules have been introduced in his crackdown on crime in the city. It was inevitable he would cause confrontations between officials and people in the streets now that the place is heavily policed.
It’s unclear why Dunn was so mad at the CBP, but people have relationships with immigrants, and the fact that the immigrants now have to live in fear could make some Americans lose patience and act out. Nobody is excusing an act of provocation toward federal employees, but in trying times where rhetoric is very divisive and inhumane, such incidents tend to happen.
Dunn working for the Justice Department is a telltale sign that he probably has access to the best lawyers in the nation, so he will probably be fine. But these situations are unlikely to end if all Trump administration measures are framed as threats.
