Man accused of stealing double-decker bus while high on drugs and causing carnage

A man is set to be questioned on suspicion of drug driving after a double decker bus was spotted 'speeding' through Anfield while the city slept.

A worried onlooker believed the vehicle was being driven so erratically they called police after watching it career down Townsend Lane at 1.30am.

A 24-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of a cocktail of offences after the bus, thought to have been stolen, was found stricken on a Queens Drive forecourt.

Police were called by a member of the public who reported seeing a red bus 'speeding' near the junction of Walton Breck Road and Townsend Lane hours after most bus services had finished for the night.

Merseyside Police found the vehicle 15 minutes later on the forecourt of the ESSO garage on Queens Drive - near the Jolly Miller pub in West Derby .

Parked across the forecourt it was found with damage to the rear of the vehicle.

A 24-year-old man from Walton was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, drug driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and damaging a vehicle.

He was remanded in custody and was expected to be questioned on Tuesday.
