Man accused of stabbing Farmfoods security guard is named by police

Today a man accused of shoplifting before stabbing a security guard in a Merseyside branch of Farmfoods was named by police.

The victim was knifed after what police termed an "altercation" with a "suspected shoplifter".

Customers were in the store in Boundary Road, St Helens at the time of the alleged stabbing which happened around 3.45pm on Saturday, October 19.

The suspected shoplifter fled the store after stabbing his victim who was taken to hospital.

It is not thought his injuries are life threatening, say police.

Police have now confirmed a man has been charged in connection with incident.

A spokesman told the ECHO: "22-year-old Kyle Paladino of no fixed abode has now been charged with Section 18 wounding with intent; theft from a shop; and possession of a weapon in a public place."

He added: "He will appear today at St Helens Adult Remand Court in Derby Square, Liverpool.
