Man accused of sexually assaulting staff at Canberra doughnut shop

Police are investigating a series of historical sexual assaults reported at a previously popular Belconnen doughnut shop, Puffin Donuts.

In a public statement on Friday, July 17, ACT Policing said its sexual assault and child abuse team was investigating multiple reports of sexual crimes being committed at the business in the 1980s.

The reports, made to police earlier this year, alleged a man assaulted multiple women who were employed at the doughnut shop, located in the Belconnen Mall at the time.

Police believe the accused man was associated with the business.

The alleged assaults reportedly occurred over one year between 1984 and 1985.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who may have information about the alleged sexual assaults or similar incidents at Puffin Donuts.

The business was located on the upper floors of Belconnen Mall and featured a train in its shop display.

"If you have any information that could assist police, please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers website. Quote reference number 8302929. Information can be provided anonymously," the police statement said.

"If you or someone you know has been affected by sexual violence, you can report to police by attending a police station or calling 131 444."

Police said people could also submit an online report for historical sexual assault for incidents that occurred more than six months ago.
